Hi sorry if this is in the wrong place but not sure where to put it! I have R A and have recently just developed odema water retained in the skin in my legs and ankles so they are very swollen and difficult to walk, and then i noticed an itchy rash on my foot and it spread really quickly to all over my foot and ankle (thought i may have been bitten) and also now the other foot! Been to my consultant who wasnt bothered at all and said see your GP for some water tablets, off i went to the gp and i got antibiotics and a cream to calm it all down and cream to put on the itchy rash. Got worse went to see another GP who this time says Cellulitis gives me more of the same antibiotic higher dose and says keep feet up (which i have been doing since day one) and keep taking water tables also. Got worse since moved and been to see new Dr., symptoms worse and heat in legs terrible , says legs are infected different stronger antibiotics and come back in a week if not calmer not so scarlet red! I dont feel that we are treating the problem and just helping it if anything.
Awaiting blood tests.
Any advise would be great i dont know what to do now but i do know i dont want to wait and see and i feel i need to do something before it all gets out of hand and i end up in hospital with real problems
Thanks Sue Ross age 44

Hi Sue
Welcome to the forum - it's just sad that you are having huge probs at the moment.
The only experience I have of cellulitis is in my right arm. Although it doesn't sound to have been as serious as your problem, I was taken into hospital for IV antibiotics and elevation of my arm.
I'm a bit surprised the GP has said you should leave it for a week and see how it goes. As the weekend is coming up, maybe it would be an idea to ring the GP again and say you are far from happy with the way things are going and, if they won't do anything, perhaps a trip to the local A & E is in order.
Take care and let us know how you get on.
Love Jeanxx

Hi Sue,
Welcome to the forum! Sorry you are suffering so much, and sorry I can't help, I don't know much about cellulitis. I agree with Jean though, you shouldn''t wait a week if the treatment is clearly not helping and should try to get a GP appointment today, or if they won't help go to A and E. Hope you can get some help with this today.
Love Doreen xx

Hi Sue I am sorry that you are having such a difficult time and feeling somewhat unsure about the care you are receiving for the cellulitus. I was unaware of this condition but having googled it ( I often do, to get some idea ) it appears it can go on for a while, so you do need a lot of care and understanding, I agree with Jean, take yourself up to A & E if the situation doesn t improve you need some positive help. Let us know how things go, and of course welcome to the Forum, good you have found us Julia x

Hi Sue
Must agree with Jean, Doreen and Julia. If you are not happy with it go straight away to A & E. GPs are not always right as we all know. Better to be safe than sorry. Good luck.

Hello Sue I agree with everyone, I think you should go to A and E. My mum had this and I know you are talking about 9 years ago but she had to go into hospital for intravenous antbiotics. I do hope you get some relief and this sort out real soon. Love Belinda xxx Treat others how you wish to be treated!!

hi sue how you now, i agree with belinda as my husband was a really bad sufferer of this in both legs(he was insulin diabetic) and he did end up every 2 days in hospital for a few hours for the drip, after trying pills after pills in the end he couldnt walk for pain and had gathered fluid in his middle, so i made the choice and took him to A&E it takes a long time for the meds to kick in, get another doc or go to A&E,try the rhummy nurse, dont mess about, just keep trying someones got to help, hugs honey, dorothy
